Every year, DEFGLIS — the volunteer charity supporting LGBTIQ+ members and veterans of the Australian Defence Force — takes its place in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade. The contingent's t-shirt isn't just merch: it's the uniform for the night, the thing that turns a group of individuals into one recognisable, proud presence moving up Oxford Street. It has to read from a distance, photograph well under parade lights, and mean something to the people wearing it.
