A label is the hardest-working rectangle in design. It has to seduce at arm's length, inform up close, wrap a curved surface, survive condensation and cold storage — and carry every legally required word without looking like a legal document. For WorldPride 2023, DEFGLIS — the volunteer charity supporting LGBTIQ+ members and veterans of the Australian Defence Force — partnered with Canberra distillery Underground Spirits on a limited-edition gin. The label had to hold three identities on one 167×110mm rectangle: the distillery's clean brand, the DEFGLIS mark with its Southern Cross, and the colour and joy of Pride itself.
